Background and Aim: Cancer is associated with high levels of stress and negative emotions, so recognizing effective psychological therapies can be effective in preventing destructive psychological symptoms and improving people with cancer. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of emotional schema therapy on cancer fatigue and self-care behaviors in patients with breast cancer.
Materials and methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design and a treatment as usual  group. The statistical population of the study also included all cases referred to the non-governmental oncology center of Urmia in the period of April and May 2020. 30 patients with breast cancer (15 people in the experimental group - 15 people in the treatment as usual  group) were selected through convenience sampling method and based on inclusion criteria and then  randomly assigned into two  experimental and treatment as usual groups. The Okuyama cancer Fatigue Questionnaire(2000) and the Researcher-made Self-Care Behavior Questionnaire were used to collect data. The experimental group experienced the Leahy emotional schema therapy (2002) for 12 sessions of 90-minutes. Both groups then respond to the measurement tool after the sessions.
Results: Participants in the study had a mean and standard deviation of age equal to 56.36 (8.09) .The results of multivariate analysis of covariance showed that the difference between the mean scores of the cancer-related fatigue and self-care behaviors after emotional schema therapy after the implementation of  emotional schema therapy  compared to the control group was significant. Emotional schema therapy reduced the cancer-related fatigue and increased self-care behaviors (p 0/001).
Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, it can be said that emotional schema therapy is effective in reducing cancer-induced fatigue and increasing self-care behaviors of breast cancer patients and can be used as a method along with other common treatments.
