Background and Aim:Acinetobacter baumannii is capable of causing various nosocomial infections due to its presence of multiple factors that contribute to antibiotic resistance, such as efflux pumps.This study aimed to investigate the frequency of AdeABC efflux pump genes and its regulatory system in A. baumannii isolates and to evaluate its relationship with antimicrobial resistance. Materials and Methods:The antibiotic resistance pattern in 100 isolates of A. baumannii was studied by disk diffusion method.Then, the presence of adeA, adeB, adeC genes and regulatory genes adeR and adeS in the isolates was investigated by PCR method.The results were analyzed using chi-squared test in SPSS software (version 16). Results:This study showed that among the isolates of A. baumannii, 86 isolates had the adeA gene, 80 isolates adeB gene, 66 isolates adeC gene, 81 isolates adeR gene, and 78 isolates adeS gene.The presence of the adeA and adeR genes among the isolates was more than the other genes. Conclusion: The results showed that A. baumannii isolates were more than 95 percent resistant to most antibiotics and the adeA, adeB, adeR, and adeS genes were present in more than 75 percent of them, which is consistent with the high drug resistance phenotype observed in the isolates.
