Background and Aim: Inflammatory bowel disease, especially ulcerative colitis (UC), is associated with chronic inflammation and disruption of the intestinal microbiota. Some intestinal bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Enterobacter cloacae, have a pks gene island and are capable of producing the genotoxic toxin colibactin, which may play a role in the pathogenesis of UC. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of clbA, clbB, clbS, and clbQ genes in patients with ulcerative colitis. Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 47 people with ulcerative colitis as the patient group and 47 healthy people as the control group. DNA was extracted from the stool samples of the studied individuals and the genes under study were examined by PCR. Findings: In the results of this study, the mean age of patients was 43.64±16.05 and control subjects was 39.09±11.43. Also, in the patient and control groups, the frequency of females in this study was 16 (34%) and males 31 (66%). Examination of the frequency of these genes showed that the frequency of these genes in both groups was zero. Conclusion: The study showed that there was no significant association between the frequency of these genes and ulcerative colitis.
