Background and Aim: The high resistance of Escherichia coli to various antibiotics and its rapid spread are among the most important challenges in the treatment of infections caused by this organism. Examination of stool and urine samples of patients can help identify the source of infection and the cause of the disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the resistance pattern and frequency of pap, sfa and afa genes in Escherichia coli strains isolated from urine and stool samples of patients with urinary tract infections (UTI). Material and Method: First, 50 urine samples and 50 stool samples were taken in pairs from patients referring to laboratories in Sanandaj. After culturing the samples and definitive diagnosis of Escherichia coli, the sensitivity of the bacteria to antibiotics was measured by the disk diffusion method and the sensitivity of the bacteria to colistin was measured by the colistin disk method in Mueller Hinton Broth medium. The frequency of the junction genes was examined by PCR. Results: In the study of the antibiogram of urine samples, it was found that in urine samples, the highest resistance belonged to amoxicillin, nalidixic acid and cotrimoxazole. Also, in the study of the antibiogram of stool samples, the highest resistance belonged to amoxicillin, cefixime and cotrimoxazole. PCR results showed that the highest frequency in urine and stool samples belonged to the pap gene and the lowest frequency of the binding factor belonged to the afa gene. Conclusion: Considering the increase in resistance to some antibiotics and the wide changes in the spectrum of drug effectiveness, it is necessary to examine the antibiotic resistance pattern at regular intervals. Also, the pap gene plays the greatest role in the binding of bacteria isolated from urine and stool samples to the surfaces of host tissues.
