Abstract:   (229 Views)
Background and Aim: Premature neonate face more challenges compared to healthy neonate due to the lack of adequate development of body systems. This study aimed to compare the effect of kangaroo Mother care (KMC) and massage on SPO2 of premature neonates who hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Materials and Methods: In this cross over experimental study, the research population consisted of premature neonates hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit of Ali Ibn Abi Taleb hospital of Rafsanjan in 2023. The sample size was determined to be 20 neonates in each group.  In the first group, first KMC, then massage, and in the second group, the intervention was done in reverse. The data collection tools were a demographic questionnaire and a monitor to record SPO2 indicator. Data were analyzed using SPSS software Version 26.

Results: According to the results, in the first and second periods, both interventions improved SPO2, but this improvement was more in the massage group (P<0.001).

Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study and considering that the implementation of massage therapy intervention is easier than KMC, it is suggested that nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit use this therapeutic method to improve the SPO2 of premature babies.
