Background and Aim:A high-cholesterol diet can damage the hippocampus, thus increasing oxidative stress and ultimately reducing memory and learning. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of Anethum tablets and Anethum extract on memory, and antioxidant status, in hypercholesterolemic rats. Materials and Methods: In this experiment, 36 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 6 groups (6/group): group 1; control, 2- hypercholesterolemic, 3- control+ 300 mg/kg Anethum tablet, 4- hypercholesterolemic + 300 mg/kg Anethum extract, 5- control + 300 mg/kg Anethum tablet, 6- hypercholesterolemic + 300 mg/kg Anethum extract. Two months after drug administration, the memory test was performed. The malondialdehyde level (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and total oxidant status (TOS) were measured. Histological changes were also investigated. Results: Treatment with Anethum tablets and Anethum extract significantly reduced MDA and TOS levels (p<0.05). Anethum treatment also increased TAC and glutathionelevels (p <0.05). Histological results showed that the Anethum improved morphological changes. Conclusion: Anethum tablets and Anethum extract reduced oxidative stress in the hippocampus. This study shows that the effects of Anethum tablets and dill extract are similar.
