Isolation of Morganella morganii from Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcer Complicated by Gangrene, Cases Report

Background and Aim: In rare cases, Morganella morganii (M. morganii) is the cause of foot ulcers in diabetic patients. In this study, two cases of patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers were considered and M. morganii was isolated from their foot ulcers.
Cases report: The first and the second cases were 47-year-old and 65-year-old ladies, respectively. Diabetic foot ulcers, infection, kidney dysfunction, and gangrene were diagnosed in both of them. Both patients' wound cultures grew M. morganii. The first patient, one month after amputation suffered bleeding, and infection and finally died. In the second case, the narrowed blood vessels were opened and the patient was discharged.
Conclusion: M. morgani is one of the causes of foot infection and gangrene in diabetic foot ulcers. Considering the weak immune system and antibiotic resistance in these patients, it is necessary to refer, diagnose and treat patients with diabetic foot ulcers quickly.
